This banana pudding has sliced bananas, homemade pudding, vanilla wafer cookies, and whipped cream. Ideal for potlucks and family gatherings!
– ¾ cup (150 grams) granulated sugar– ¼ cup (32 grams) cornstarch– 2 ½ cups (600 ml) whole milk– ½ cup (120 ml) heavy whipping cream– 4 large egg yolk

– 2 tablespoons (30 grams, or ¼ stick) unsalted butter (sliced into two pieces)– 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract– 50 vanilla wafer– 4 medium ripe bananas (sliced into ¼-inch thick slices)

Mix sugar and cornstarch in a large pot. Whisk milk, heavy whipping cream, and egg yolks in a large bowl. Whisk the sugar-cornstarch saucepan while slowly adding wet ingredients.

Scrub the saucepan's bottom and sides with a rubber spatula several times while boiling over medium heat. Boiling for one minute produces a thick mixture.

Add butter and vanilla extract one tablespoon at a time after heating. Transfer mixture to heatproof bowl with fine-mesh strainer. Cover custard with plastic for an hour.

Whisk chilled pudding. Stack 25 vanilla wafers in an 8-inch square or 2-quart pan. Place banana slices on vanilla wafers half-way. Topping with half the pudding.

Return vanilla wafers, pudding, and bananas. Banana pudding chills 3–4 hours. Whip heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a stand mixer or large handheld mixer bowl.

Rise to medium-high speed until mixture stiffens. On banana pudding, put whipped cream. Before serving, crush vanilla wafers and slice bananas.
